Experiencing the end of the season in Barcelona and the addition of David Villa

The month of May has been a great one for Cule’s all over the world, and after the disappointment of April we needed it. The last week has been perhaps the best week of the year and I have had the privilege of being in Barcelona to experience all of it.

I arrived on Sunday and picked up my ticket to the Barca vs Valladolid match. My first time at the Camp Nou was going to turn out to be a special night. Of course I do not have to tell you all what happened as it was a special way to win the league with such a convincing victory.

It ended the season in a perfect fashion with Messi scoring twice and Barca getting a clean sheet for the 29th time. After the first half the supporters began a fiesta that would last throughout the night all over the city. The celebration was held in the Camp Nou and each player spoke. The Blaugrana faithful showed tremendous support for each player and the majority of the players ended their speeches with “Visca Barca, Visca Catalyunia”. The reception that Ibrahimovic and Henry received was most surprising as both players have been under tremendous pressure this season to play better. The loudest cheers were for the local players and La Masia graduates showing just how patriotic Barca fans are.

This week rumors have been swirling around the city about the signings of David Villa and Fabregas. Friday Villa was officially unveiled in front of a massive crowd of raucous supporters. It is arguable the best piece of business that Barcelona has done since bringing Gerard Pique back to the Camp Nou. €40 million for one of the most lethal strikers on the planet is peanuts when you look at the current football market. David Villa has always been a consistent scorer and playing on one of the best sides in the world should reveal just how great he can be. The Spanish international promised to bring: ”Hard work, humility and a desire to try to help the team be a little better. I’m really keen to get started here.”

Whether or not Fabregas comes back to his roots, it has been a good week for Barcelona and next season is only going to be better!

Play Beautiful!
