Carles Puyol out 20 days for FC Barcelona with hamstring injury

Puyol sidelined 20 days with hamstring injury

Captain Carles Puyol was pulled from the starting lineup on Sunday against Racing Santander just minutes before the team was to kickoff the 2010/2011 season as a precaution after complaining of pain in his leg.

Well on Monday while Puyol was training with the Spanish National team in preperation for Euro qualifications he noticed a strong pain to his left leg and immediately retired to the locker room. Following medical examinations conducted by the Spanish Federation Puyol was told that he had suffered a hamstring injury and initial reports are that the Barça captain will be sidelined for 20 days.

Puyol has returned to Barcelona to begin recover but now there is sure to be controversy between FC Barcelona and the Spanish Federation due to Barcelona requesting that the captain be held from practicing per the medical report they sent with their player to Madrid.

Upon review of the medical report Spanish Federation officials deemed the report inaccurate and cleared Puyol to practice with the team. After just five minutes of practice Puyol suffered the injury and was sent to the hospital for the tests to be performed.
