FC Barcelona keeper Jose Pinto receives two match ban from UEFA for antics
FC Barcelona backup keeper Jose Pinto has received a two match ban from UEFA on Friday after being investigated following an unusual situation resulting in FC Copenhagen missing a break away opportunity.
The incident occurred in the 26th minute of FC Barcelona’s Champions League match against FC Copenhagen when Copenhagen’s Santin was through on goal with beating the Barcelona backline and then stopped even though the linesmen’s flag was clearly down.
What the viewing audience did not see or “hear” was Jose Pinto throwing up his arm and simulating the sound of a whistle confusing Santin to think he had been called offsides.
Following the match Copenhagen did not find Pinto’s antics as funny as everyone else and filed a “fair play” complaint with UEFA.
The two match ban will mean that Pinto cannot participate in the next two Champions League match for the club but does not effect his availability for La Liga matches.
