A Rebuttal Letter To Mr Mourinho
Originally I had planned to write a piece about the press conference Jose Mourinho held following their loss last night and pretty much sealed their fate giving up two away goals. I had a whole list of stuff to talk about including the UNICEF comments, the Stamford Bridge comment and the back handed compliments given to Pep Guardiola.
I received a lot of Twitter messages from Madrid fans justifying the comments made by Mourinho and rebuttals to some of the comments I made yesterday. Why Madrid fans are following me on Twitter is beyond me, but so be it.
As I sat down to begin to write last night I received an email from a Barcelona fan and a fan of the website.
I created this site for all of you so I thought that it would be fitting instead of hearing from me to hear from a fan who took the time to express his feeling about the above video. A complete breakdown of the Mourinho press conference in its entirety can be found here.
I am interested to hear all of your thoughts regarding Mourinho’s comments, fell free to leave them on the site for all to discuss.
Dear Mr Mourinho
This is my first attempt at writing an article regarding football, however, I believe I need to provide a rebuttal on behalf of FC Barcelona, because we have had enough.
Firstly, both sides were NOT treated equally, Real Madrid taunted Barca players on and off the pitch, the press, and in every possible way throughout this season (lets not forget the doping allegations). Real is a physical team and Barca is not. Barca players as you and I both perfectly know WILL make a big deal about their players being fouled (even if its minor). If you expect to use your ‘bully’ styled tactics and oversized players, Barca will have to defend themselves. Barca’s tactics were very simple ‘pass and run and lets hope one of the Real players doesn’t injure us.’
Don’t complain about not having Pepe or Ramos for the next game, Barca played perfectly without two of their main 11 at times, and have either won or taken the loss in their stride, as in the case of the Copa Final. It is you who seems to be trying to gain sympathy with the press and the media. Post the Copa Final match you criticised Pep for being in a new category of coaches, if Real can’t understand or comprehend what is shown as evidence (just as Pedro’s run was clearly off-side in the Copa final), then you might have just included yourself to that category of coaches.
Don’t blame UEFA for an international conspiracy or try to play your usual “they are all against us” tactics. Let’s not forget Barca suffered a trophy drought for 5 years before this wonderful era of football it brought to every football-loving person leaving any normal person staring at barca replays. I can’t remember Barca FC blaming the football association for its lack of success. The appreciation and success that Barca has received was well fought for for several years.
Stop playing the victim. You are undoubtedly a mastermind of football tactics and its workings, however, accepting defeat with grace is something you are yet to learn.
Things weren’t going your way from the first whistle at kick-off. Taunting the referee because you couldn’t accept the fact that your tactics had failed only got you sent to the stands. Mastermind ways? I really wonder.
In your other Barca encounters with different teams, same tactics applied, “Physical Dominance”. Having worked there, you know Barca too well, its strengths and weaknesses, and you know the only way to knock out tiki-taka is by physical dominance. Just like the case of your Chelsea team which was a very physical one, and you clearly built up Inter’s tactics to do the same whenever they faced the Cules.
Fair enough, what’s football without some physicality and some adrenalin triggered tackles and fights. But if you want to dish it, you better be able to take it. Barca will probably never be able to match the physical aggressiveness of its Madrid rivals, but if you come into a game with the objective of disrupting our play with unfair tackles rather than to win, then you should be well prepared to see some yellow and red.
Its the way of this “disgusting world”, you win some you lose some.
You are one of the greatest coaches, but sadly and logically you won’t be able to beat Barca all the time. Yes you did with Inter and recently with Real but don’t forget Barca has what it takes to humiliate and cripple a team when it is in its best form.
Us as Barca fans are never going to be embarrassed of our side, and neither is Pep. Lets not forget after the “Stamford bridge scandal” we could have easily called our loss to Inter a ‘scandal’, since the ref definitely took some questionable decisions. There have always been unfair and “ridiculous’ decisions made by refs, but there is no conspiracy. This also implies that UEFA is not involved in any sympathetic treatment towards Los Cules.
As football fans we looked forward to some great football being played, however, Real disappointed because they clearly didn’t come to play. You were so involved in your ‘grand plan’ to stop Barca’s passing that you completely overlooked your own team’s passing and your strategy to score and win. And don’t say your strategy was to get a striker in at 70 mins. You were never in control of the game, before the red card, or after the red card. Playing the victim and blaming the ref just gets old. Your team had no chances and let’s just agree no good or bad decision would have changed the result of the game.
You are as entertaining a coach as we can ever get, but how about you take the great talent your team possesses and bring some results and retire the blame game.
I conclude this letter by letting you know Mr. Mourinho that today’s world is indeed disgusting. We have 1.5 billion people under the poverty line of $2.5 a day, and people dying on every side of the globe because of wars they chose not to be a part of. You should learn how to take a loss in your stride when beaten by arguably one of the best sides in footballing history, and stop complaining about external factors that do not exist while you try giving birth to them.
Kind Regards,
Anon
