La Liga strike is over!! Week two will go on as scheduled

La Liga strike has ended!!

The first week of La Liga had already been lost and it was not looking like good for week two as numerous meeting through out the week had ended in a deadlock. However, on Thursday afternoon talks between the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) and Liga de Futbol Profesional (LFP) finally resulted in an agreement that would end the two week strike.

On the AFE website the following statement has been issued:

“The committee of the AFE and LFP have reached an agreement that ensured, through various means, the salaries of footballers.” “After the meeting today between the AFE and the LFP, the strike scheduled for Friday August 26, Saturday August 27, Sunday August 28 and Monday August 29 is off.”

According to the LFP the plan now is to play all week one matches on December 28 but an agreement will be needed with the AFE because they have a clause in their contract that bans them from participating in matches during the holidays.

FC Barcelona will start their La Liga campaign on Monday against Villarreal at 3pm EDT. They will have little rest for this match after returning this weekend to the Camp Nou from Monaco where they are participating in the UEFA Super Cup.
