Record numbers come out to vote for the next club president

On Sunday FC Barcelona members showed up in record numbers at the Camp Nou to cast their vote for the 39th President of FC Barcelona.  When all the ballots had been counted it was the 46 year old, ex-Nike executive, Sandro Rosell who would be the landslide people choice to succeed Joan Laporta.

Rosell captured 61% of the votes, with a record 35,021 members giving their support, the second place candidate Agusti Benedito received 8,044 votes.  The margin of victory by Rosell was the second largest in club history.

Sandro Rosell will take over as club president on June 30.  Awaiting Rosell is of course the situation with Cesc Fabregas, the future of Yaya Toure, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the future of Pep Guardiola.  So he will have his work cut out for him right out the gates.

The length of Guardiola's new contract will be the deciding factor in the Cesc Barcelona media saga. Rumour is that if he only signs for 1 year , he will be off to The Arsenal to replace Wenger at the end of his contract and that Cesc will stay in London.
